Are Electric Scooters Legal in Cyprus?
Yes, electric scooters are legal in Cyprus and were officially regulated on September 1, 2022. However, there have been new calls to ban them.
Here are some of the key rules to follow:
- You must be at least 14 years old to ride an electric scooter. Also, carrying a second person isn’t allowed (unless there’s an additional seat).
- The maximum speed for electric scooters is 20 km/h, but it’s generally best to stay within the 10-15 km/h range.
- Helmets are mandatory, and you should ride only on bike lanes and roads with a speed limit of 30 km/h or less.
Does Paphos Have Scooters?
Electric scooters are showing up all over Paphos, and tourists are loving them!
These little vehicles are perfect for quick trips, allowing you to skip the traffic and see the sights without worrying about parking.
While you can find scooter rental shops in main areas like the Harbour, we personally prefer using an app.
Apps and Prices
If you want to rent an electric scooter in Paphos, apps like Hopp and Bolt make it super easy and affordable.
Hopp
Hopp is an eco-friendly scooter rental service that comes with a great app.
Just find a scooter, scan it, and go. Prices start at around 1 euro to unlock the scooter, with an extra 0.25 euro per minute of use.
Their map also shows where you can park and highlights any slow or out-of-bound zones.
Bolt
Bolt also offers electric scooters, but they’re currently available only in Yeroskipou. The pricing here is 0.75 euros to unlock and 0.25 euros per minute.
Plus, there’s a 1 euro cancellation fee in case you decide to reserve and then cancel a scooter.
What Do You Need to Rent a Scooter?
Overall, renting a scooter here is quite simple.
Again, make sure you’re familiar with local traffic rules and scooter regulations to keep things safe and smooth.
For electric scooters, a license usually isn’t required, however, you might need to show ID to confirm your age.
Also, keep in mind that most apps require a credit card, although local shops typically accept cash deposits.
